Oba Obayomi Is A Blessing To Ilese - Agbon
The newly installed Agbon of Ilese Ijebu, High Chief Victor Adekunle Adebanjo has described the Elese of Ilese as a blessing to the community.
Speaking during a chat with a newshunt, the retired school principal turned community leader stated that he will add value to his fatherland.
Excerpts:
Q:In summary, sir, your profile?
A: I obtained my primary school certificate at L.A primary school Sabo Sagamu after which I proceeded to Adeola Odutola college for my secondary education.
God on my side, I graduated in flying colours which gave me the privilege to obtain my tertiary education at the polytechnic Ibadan and the University of Lagos.
I joined the Ogun State teaching service commission in 1974 as a teacher in Remo Divisional high school and later got transferred to Lisabi Grammar school, Abeokuta Nawarudeen Grammar school Obantoko Abeokuta, Saje High school, Orile Kesi Grammar school Odeda and retired as a school principal in 2014.
After retirement, I ventured into husbandry; rearing rams, sheeps, goats among other livestock, creating job opportunities for the youths and also adding value to the economy.
Q: Elese will be celebrating five years on the throne. What can you say about the monarch?
A: Elese is a blessing to the community and he has been able to use his good office to enhance the potential of the community.
We thank God we have several personalities like Otunba Kayode Odusanya, Otunba Taiwo Afolabi, Otunba Segun Demuren that are poised towards projecting the community and they have being able to work hand in hand with the monarch to elevate the status of our fatherland.
Having said that, we also have an annual carnival in the community ''Ilese Day'' which is being used to generate funds for capital projects in the community.
God on our side, Ilese will continue to wax stronger in all ramifications.
Q: How do you intend to add value to Ilese as the Agbon of the community?
A: One of the duties of the council of chiefs is to make recommendations to the monarch, by extension, brainstorm with the monarch on modalities to achieve maximum success in the community. This, we will continue to pursue with the available resources at our disposal towards elevating the status of our fatherland.
In addition to that, I have some high profile personalities in high places who are my former students that could help the community to grow and flourish, efforts will be made to attract investment into the community to reduce unemployment and also provide additional infrastructures that will improve the living condition of the people.
Q: With your experiences as a retired principal, what do you think can be done to improve the quality of education in Ilese?
A: I intend to construct a befitting principal office with a staff room in Ilese High School in memory of my late father Pa. Adebanjo, the school needs a modern administrative staff building that will motivate teachers to impact positively into the pupils.
The government is trying their best in the area of education but their best is not good enough and that is why stakeholders in the community need to complement government efforts in nation building by undertaking self sustaining projects.
